While some blamed faulty electrical connections, experts have weighed in on the matter. According to them, static shocks are quite common during the transition period between winter and summer when the air lacks moisture. When the air is dry, especially in the winter, it can lead to static shocks when touching metal surfaces. This can happen due to the buildup of static charges that get transmitted from one object to another, ultimately dissipating into the ground.
In addition, doctors and scientists have pointed out that the incidence of static shocks is higher among people wearing woollen clothes, and the type of clothing material could also be a factor. Dr. K M Manjunath, Chief of Medical Department at Vikram Hospital, said that static electric shocks are commonly experienced during winter, and the mornings are still cold in the city.
While there is no specific explanation for this phenomenon, it seems to be a seasonal occurrence that can be attributed to a combination of factors such as weather transitions, dry air, and clothing materials.
