Just like Twitter as Meta looks to make ‘revenue’, Mark Zuckerburg announced the new paid subscription service.

paid blue Verification Tick

If you thought Facebook was always going to be free, think again! Mark Zuckerberg and his team at Meta have announced a new paid subscription service for Facebook and Instagram, which will set you back $11.99 a month on web or $14.99 on iOS and Android. But wait, it gets better: if you’re in Australia, you’ll have to shell out $19.99 on web or $24.99 on iOS and Android. Ouch!

But what do you get for your hard-earned cash? Well, for starters, you can verify your account using a government ID and get a fancy blue badge next to your name, just like a superhero. The service will also offer “extra impersonation protection,” which is perfect if you’re worried about someone pretending to be you online. You’ll also get improved reach for verified users and direct access to customer support. How exciting!

And that’s not all: if you subscribe to the service, you’ll get exclusive stickers for your Instagram stories. Because who doesn’t love stickers, right? But don’t get too excited: the help center page on eligibility has been taken down. We do know that you must be at least 18 to subscribe to the service, but who knows what other requirements you’ll need to meet.

Of course, Facebook and Instagram aren’t the only social media platforms to offer paid verification. Twitter, led by the ever-entertaining Elon Musk, was the first to bring paid verification for accounts. And Twitter is taking things a step further by launching a new service called “Twitter Verification” for big organizations, which adds a gold checkmark to their official business accounts. If you want to get in on the action, you’ll need to shell out $8 for Android users and $11 for iPhone owners per month globally.

But it’s not just the US that’s getting in on the paid verification game. Twitter Blue is now available in 15 countries, including India, Brazil, and Indonesia. The micro-blogging site now charges Rs 650 per month with verification on the web and Rs 900 on Android and iOS mobile devices. That’s a lot of money just to get a little blue checkmark next to your name, but hey, some people will do anything for that sweet, sweet validation.

So, there you have it, folks. If you want to be a verified social media superstar, it’s going to cost you. But think of all the exclusive stickers you’ll get! It’s a small price to pay for internet fame, right?
