The issue appears to have started after an update was released on May 12th, and rolling back to an older version of the software has not resolved the problem for many users.

Some Reddit users have reported that their phones are getting extremely hot, potentially harming the battery and CPU.

The issue may be server-side, as rolling back to earlier versions of the Google app has not fixed the problem for some users.

This is not the first time that a software update has caused problems for Pixel users. In May 2022, an update caused the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro to produce weaker haptic feedback, which Google had to patch.

In December 2021, the company paused the rollout of its Pixel update after users reported that it was causing dropped calls.

If a user's Pixel phone is affected by the current issue, they may want to keep a charger nearby and avoid using the Google app until the issue is resolved.
